A former church near to the Waterfront, St Clement’s was known as the Mariners’ Church before conversion for community use by Ipswich Historic Churches Trust.
This former church by the Waterfront is associated with Thomas Slade, the naval architect who designed, HMS Victory and round-the-world explorer Thomas Eldred, who are both buried here.
Ipswich Historic Churches Trust converted the redundant church, turning it into an arts and community hub for use. It now hosts a wide variety of events, art shows, music, dancing and the annual Ipswich Beer and Cider Festival every July.
Improvements include a level marine timber floor, modern toilets, new water supply and drainage, new bell ringing floor and pendant lighting in the nave.
It is an open access venue for local groups and organisations to use and is easily accessible by all who visit the space.
